What is the Chancenkarte?
The Chancenkarte (German for "Opportunity Card") is a brand new German residence permit that came into force on 1 June 2024. It allows qualified professionals from non-EU countries โ including Pakistan โ to enter Germany for 12 months to search for a job locally, without needing a job offer beforehand.
While in Germany on the Chancenkarte, you can work part-time up to 20 hours per week to support yourself financially, and do unlimited 2-week trial jobs to find the right employer. Once you secure a full-time position, you can switch to a regular work residence permit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Pakistani citizens really apply for the Chancenkarte?
Yes โ the Chancenkarte is open to all non-EU citizens, which includes Pakistani nationals. You apply at the German Embassy in Islamabad or the German Consulate. The key requirements are a degree/vocational training, German A1 or English B2 language skills, and financial means of โฌ13,092/year (blocked account). HS Global has guided multiple Pakistani clients through the application process since the card launched in June 2024.
Do I need to speak German to apply?
You need EITHER German A1 (very basic) OR English B2 (IELTS 5.5 equivalent) to meet the basic language requirement. However, knowing more German significantly increases your points score and your job prospects in Germany. HS Global's sister company Language World offers German A1โB2 courses in Karachi โ we recommend achieving at least German B1 before applying to maximise your score.
What is a German blocked account (Sperrkonto)?
A blocked account (Sperrkonto) is a German bank account where you deposit โฌ13,092 (the required amount for 2026) which can only be withdrawn in monthly installments of โฌ1,091. It proves to the embassy that you can support yourself in Germany without relying on German welfare. Reputable providers include Expatrio and Fintiba โ HS Global guides you through the setup process.
What happens after my Chancenkarte expires?
If you find a job: you apply at the local Foreigners' Registration Office (Auslรคnderbehรถrde) to switch to a regular work residence permit โ this is designed to be straightforward. You can then work towards permanent residency after 4โ5 years. If you don't find a job within 12 months: the permit expires and you must leave Germany. You can reapply after a minimum 1-year break outside Germany.
Is my Pakistani degree valid for the Chancenkarte?
Yes โ you do NOT need your Pakistani degree to be formally recognised in Germany before applying. You simply need to prove you completed a university degree or minimum 2-year vocational training in your home country. Once in Germany, you can pursue formal recognition through a "Recognition Partnership" with your employer, which happens while you're already working.
How long does the Chancenkarte visa take to process?
Processing time at the German Embassy Islamabad varies โ typically 6โ12 weeks from complete application submission. HS Global submits a complete, error-free application to minimise processing delays. We recommend starting the process at least 4โ5 months before your intended travel date.
