Most guides say "a range of scholarships are available" and leave it there. This one names them, gives the actual percentage off, and tells you which have already closed. Written by a consultancy whose founder studied in Australia.
There are two completely different kinds of Australian scholarship, and confusing them wastes months. Government scholarships are fully funded, extremely competitive, and open only during one fixed window each year. University scholarships are partial tuition reductions, applied automatically when you are admitted, and available all year.
Almost every Pakistani student who ends up with money off their fees gets it from the second kind. Almost every article you will read focuses on the first.
Australia Awards for the 2027 intake has closed. Applications for scholarships commencing in 2027 closed on 30 April 2026. A great many Pakistani websites still advertise it as open. The next round, for the 2028 intake, is expected to open in early 2027. If you want to start before 2028, university scholarships are your realistic route.
These are tuition reductions awarded on your admission application. In most cases you do not fill in a separate form: the university assesses you when it assesses your admission, and the discount appears in your offer letter.
| University | Scholarship | Value | Applies to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deakin University | SDG-related degrees | 50% off tuition | Degrees linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals |
| Griffith University | Griffith Remarkable Scholarship | 50% off tuition | Exceptional undergraduate and postgraduate coursework applicants |
| Curtin University | John Curtin Global Excellence | 40% off tuition | For the full duration of the course |
| Deakin University | International scholarship | 25% off tuition | Available to all commencing international students |
| UNSW Sydney | UNSW International Student Award | 20% off tuition | Every year of your programme |
Read that table as money, not percentages. On a two-year master's at roughly AUD 40,000 a year, Griffith's 50% is about AUD 40,000 saved across the degree. Curtin's 40% is around AUD 32,000. Even UNSW's 20% is AUD 16,000. These are larger sums than most fully funded scholarships people spend a year chasing and do not get.
Our founder is a Griffith University graduate, which is why we talk about Griffith specifically rather than in general terms. The Remarkable Scholarship is competitive and awarded on academic merit โ it is not automatic, and we will tell you honestly whether your transcript is in range before you build a plan around it.
Australia Awards is the Australian government's flagship scholarship. It covers full tuition, travel, a living stipend and health cover. It is also the most misunderstood scholarship in Pakistan, because it is not designed for school leavers.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Citizenship | Pakistani citizen, resident in Pakistan for at least 24 months before applying |
| Age | Minimum 18, under 45 at the time of application |
| Residency | Must not hold Australian permanent residency |
| Background | Strong academics and relevant work experience in a field aligned with Pakistan's development priorities |
| English | IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0 ยท or TOEFL iBT 84 with 21+ in every sub-test ยท or PTE Academic 58 with no skill below 50 |
| 2027 intake deadline | Closed 30 April 2026 |
Notice the phrase "relevant work experience in a field aligned with Pakistan's development priorities." That is the criterion that decides most applications, and it is why a 21-year-old with a fresh bachelor's and no work history rarely succeeds regardless of marks. Australia Awards is built to send mid-career professionals back to Pakistan with skills the country needs.
The English bar is higher than for a student visa. IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0 rules out a large share of otherwise strong applicants. If Australia Awards is genuinely your plan for 2028, sit IELTS now โ not after applications open โ so you have room to retake.
This is where students get caught. A tuition scholarship reduces tuition. It does not reduce the other two numbers that decide whether your visa is granted.
| Cost | Amount | Does a scholarship help? |
|---|---|---|
| Living costs you must evidence | AUD 29,710 for one year | No โ unchanged |
| Subclass 500 visa application fee | AUD 2,500 | No |
| OSHC health cover | Varies by provider and duration | Only if the scholarship explicitly includes it |
| Tuition | Varies by university | Yes โ this is the part that reduces |
Submit your scholarship letter with the visa application. The case officer assesses whether you can fund your studies, and a documented 40% tuition reduction materially changes that calculation. Students who hold a scholarship and forget to include the letter are evidencing a larger shortfall than they actually have.
Be careful with any agent who "guarantees" you a scholarship. University awards are decided by university admissions committees on academic merit. No consultancy in Pakistan can guarantee one, including us. What we can do is tell you before you apply whether your marks put you in range, and make sure the application is strong enough to be considered.
Scholarship pools are finite. Applying in the first weeks that an intake opens puts you in front of a committee with a full budget rather than the last of it. For the February 2027 intake that means applying now, not in October.
A 75% student is unremarkable at a Group of Eight university and genuinely competitive at Griffith, Deakin or Curtin. The same transcript can be worth nothing at one university and 40 to 50% off at another. This is the single biggest lever most students never pull.
Deakin's higher 50% band applies to degrees linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals โ environment, health, education, sustainable engineering. If you were already choosing between two courses, one of them may be worth an extra 25% off.
Most university awards are automatic, but a few competitive ones require their own form and their own deadline. Missing those is pure avoidable loss โ you were eligible and simply did not apply.
Send us your transcript and we will tell you which of these scholarships your marks are in range for, and which universities to apply to first. Free, and we will tell you honestly if the answer is none of them.
๐ฌ Check on WhatsApp Book Free CounsellingTwo kinds. Government scholarships such as Australia Awards, fully funded but highly competitive and open only in a fixed annual window. And university scholarships, which are automatic tuition reductions applied when you are admitted. The university ones are where most Pakistani students actually save: Deakin 25% for all international students and 50% for SDG-related degrees, Griffith's Remarkable Scholarship at 50%, Curtin's John Curtin Global Excellence at 40% for the full course, and UNSW's International Student Award at 20% every year.
Not for the 2027 intake โ those applications closed on 30 April 2026. The next round, for 2028, is expected to open in early 2027. Many websites still advertise the 2027 round as open, which is out of date. If you want to start sooner than 2028, university scholarships are your realistic route.
Yes, and the bar is higher than for a normal student visa: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 84 with at least 21 in every sub-test, or PTE Academic 58 with no communicative skill below 50. Many applicants who meet the academic criteria are ruled out on English alone, so sit the test early.
Fully funded scholarships exist but are rare and extremely competitive. Australia Awards is the main one and it targets applicants with work experience in Pakistan's development priority sectors, not school leavers. University scholarships are far more achievable but partial, typically 20 to 50% of tuition. Budget on a partial award and treat a full scholarship as upside.
Usually not. Most Australian university international scholarships are assessed automatically from your admission application, and the reduction appears in your offer letter. That is why the strength of the initial application matters so much. A few competitive awards do require a separate form and deadline, and missing that is a common avoidable loss.
Partly. It reduces the tuition you need to evidence, but it does not change the living cost requirement of AUD 29,710 for one year, and it does not cover the Subclass 500 visa fee of AUD 2,500. Include your scholarship letter with the visa application so the case officer sees the reduced tuition.
Scholarship values as published by the universities and current at August 2026. Australia Awards eligibility and the 30 April 2026 closing date are as published for the 2027 intake. Scholarship terms change between intakes โ we confirm the live figure with the university before you apply, and you should never transfer money on the strength of a percentage quoted in an article, including this one.
